We and us, not me and my

Here’s what jumped out of the Bible and grabbed me today.  I want to turn the M in Me right side up so it spells We!

Scripture

“Since we” (Hebrews 10:21) … “let us” (Hebrews 10:22)

Observation

What? Paul talks at length about the good things that await those who understand and embrace God’s new covenant, new sacrifice, new High Priest, and new access to God through Jesus.

So what? Having established what God has done in the new covenant, Paul goes on to say what we should do about it.  “Since we have confidence” (vs. 19) and “since we have a great high priest (vs. 21), let us.”

Application

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere (open for inspection) heart” (vs. 22)

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess” (vs. 23)

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (vs. 24)

“Let us not give up on meeting together.” (vs. 25)

“Let us encourage one another” (vs. 25)

Let us not sin.  (vs. 26-33)

Let us sympathize with those who are hurting. (vs.34)

Let us persevere. (vs. 35 – 39)

That’s a lot of ‘let us.’   That’s a healthy spiritual meal.  Since God has done this and since we have this let us do that.  Press in.  Hold on.  Come together.  Fellowship. Encourage. Stay pure. Care.  Persevere.  It’s all about we and us.  It’s all plural.  It’s all community.

Prayer

Lord, help us to have an abundant community garden at Westside full of lettuce.
