Chromosomes

“ … a promise was made that took priority over genetics.” Romans 9:11b, MSG

A promise was made to Abraham that took priority over genetics. A similar promise was made to Isaac’s wife, Rebekah. By believing God’s promise when it seemed impossible, Abraham became the father of Isaac. By believing God’s promise when it seemed impossible, Rebekah became the mother of Jacob. God-given promises contain our inheritance, our promised future, our new (divine) DNA.

Chromosomes are structures within cells that bear the genetic material of living beings as threadlike strands of DNA bonded to various proteins.

In Romans 9, scripture says an amazing thing. It says that through faith, my new DNA (godliness; Christ-likeness) trumps my old DNA (selfishness; self-obsession).

How do I get the new DNA? By believing God’s promises about me.
We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God … 2 Peter 1:4, MSG

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:3-4, NIV

In the Eden Garden, the evil one (Satan) twisted the chromosome strands of mankind and turned the godly DNA (l.i.v.e) into self-centered DNA (e.v.i.l) So what? So my natural inclination is to bend away from God and live a life that is all about me. But, Praise Jesus, when I was born a second time I was given a new DNA. It is a chromosomal makeup that leads one to live a life that is all about loving God and loving others.

So how to I grow to become the person God had in mind when he manufactured me in my mother’s womb? By faith. By simply believing God’s promises about my possible future. All of God’s words actually contain his DNA. Promises are simply God’s words about our potential future. When I believe what God says about my future, His DNA grows in me!

Thank you God, for your promises. I’m coming to see that the ‘new me’ is the ‘true me’!
